Five Deleted Messages

»The text concludes in a shared bewilderment—for the sense that the pandemic might have changed something has long since evaporated. The ›human particles‹ (Falk Richter) are once again hurtling forward, unchecked.«

Man alone late at night, thrown back on himself and his racing thoughts, has been a common motif in literature not only since Goethe’s »Faust«. Viewed from a distance, the corona crisis can also be seen as a gigantic experiment on the living modern subject: People are thrown from a fast-paced life into the idle of the lockdown and suddenly have to find their bearings anew.

The diary is cancelled. The hamster wheel stands still. The stress gives way to emptiness and suddenly big questions arise. How do I want to live? In isolation, people find themselves at the mercy of their own vulnerability, confronted with their own finiteness. What has my life been like up to this point, what should it be like in the future? These questions are accompanied by great emotions: Loneliness and love, fear and anger. The experiment is unique. It takes place for everyone individually and at the same time for everyone. It confronts us with the truth about ourselves and about the society we return to after this night.

After Falk Richter (»Director of the Year 2018«) made a guest appearance in Weimar in 2019 with his major scenic essay »I am Europe« from the National Theatre Strasbourg, the Berlin author and director developed the performance »Five Deleted Messages« for the Kunstfest Weimar in 2020 together with one of the protagonists of the Maxim Gorki Theatre in Berlin, Dimitrij Schaad, who was seen with great success in the »Kangaroo Chronicles« in the cinema.
