»It is a magnificent interpretation; traditional, intelligent and lightly ironic all at once – possibly not for Shakespeare purists, but a production that fearlessly captures our time.«

Peter Andersson plays the title role in Shakespeare’s tragedy about a change of throne that leads to chaos.
On stage: The aged King Lear, before stepping down from the throne, wants to divide the kingdom between his three daughters. But only those who express their love for him get a piece of the pie. His capricious decisions lead to a bitter power struggle and soon Lear finds himself at the bottom, outcast and despised.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the burdened male director falls ill and lets his daughter take over the work on the production of King Lear. Together with the ensemble, she grapples with the content of the play, her own newfound position and the relationship with her father.
Directed and adapted by the German director and playwright Falk Richter, King Lear is a multi-layered story about power, inheritance, generational clashes and a kingdom in chaos. Does the next generation really want change? Or are they also just driven by a blind lust for power?
